Oblivion:Recommended Mods

The UESPWiki – Your source for The Elder Scrolls since 1995

Jump to: navigation, search

While UESP Wiki strives for objectivity on its pages, mod recommendations are inherently subjective. Moreover, such lists are usually most useful when put together with a single or small set of editors with fairly consistent standards. A given editor is likely to focus on his/her tastes and evaluate their list based on the capabilities of their system. Accordingly, rather than have a single list of recommended mods, this page will list other lists with some background and evaluation of them.

Contents

[edit] Aelius' List of Recommended Mods

This is probably the largest and most thorough recommended mods list. (Buddha's list is certainly larger, but simply lists all mods with no evaluation.) Aelius compiles it by scanning through thousands of mod listings, reviewing their descriptions, and seeking comments and evaluations from mod players.
Note: The list has not been updated since August 2007. Also (at the time of last update), the list was based on limited play experience. While Aelius was very thorough in reviewing readmes and talking to other mod players about their likes and dislikes, he himself hardly played the game. As a result, Aelius did not always have the background to fully evaluate mods, and has sometimes been unaware of issues and advances that regular players are well familiar with.
Aelius' list is well worth using, but its recommendations or failure to recommend certain mods should be considered in light of the last update and his limited play experience.

[edit] BallOfFire's Oblivion Modlist

BallOfFire is an active mod player. His guide includes a large collection of mods that all work well together.

[edit] BG's List of Base Mods

Rather than trying to list best mods in all categories, this list focuses mods that fix the stuff that most needs fixing.
  • Note: Because this list is relatively short and because it clearly describes the choices that need to be made, new mod users are likely to find this list particularly useful. (Although it's still useful for experienced players.)
  • bg's List of Base Mods

[edit] Buddah's List-O-Links

The most thorough and complete list of Oblivion mods by far. However it is, by policy, without recommendations. The online version is particularly useful when trying to find the link to a mod that you've heard about or for one with in particular category. Buddah also maintains an ongoing "Mod Detectives" topic on the Oblivion Mods Forum in which he offers help in finding mods.

[edit] dev_akm's Oblivion Mod Guides

dev_akm is an active player, modder and metamodder (i.e., he's known for dealing with issues regarding integration of mods with each other). He's most known for authoring the Oblivion Mods FAQ, as well as his FCOM mod, which integrates several of the leading "overhaul" mods. He has several focused guides:

[edit] jamenta's Overclock.net Oblivion Modding FAQ

jamenta's FAQ includes information on Where to Go, How to Mod, and What Mods to Get. Includes a very popular and up-to-date linked recommendations section grouped as Blockbuster Mods, World & Character Textures mods, Sound & Lighting mods, Items mods, Real Estate, and Books & Gardening mods.

[edit] Shezrie's Oblivion Real Estate

Shezrie is an active mod player and mod creator whose ORE project has grown into an extensive guide to Oblivion house mods.

[edit] TES Nexus Top 100 Mods

Most popular 100 mods at TES Nexus. Result is an eclectic mix of excellent mods. However, includes all files at TES Nexus, so some Morrowind mods are mixed in.

[edit] UESP Oblivion: Must Have Mods

This is UESP's list of must have mods. Small to medium sized and covers a mix of subjects with individual reviews in more depth than Aelius' list. However, lack of single, dedicated editor limits it to a relatively small number of well known mods.

[edit] UESP Body Replacers

This page lists known body replacer mods, providing links and screenshot comparisons. Note: Most of these mods provide nude (or partially nude) anatomically correct adult male and female bodies. Some of these mods also come with a selection of "exotic" adult attire. Continue at your own discretion.

[edit] Wrye's Fun Oblivion Videos

Wrye's short list of cool Oblivion Videos.
